Orphan Facts
Today there are estimated over 143 million orphans in the world.
That is enough children to go three times around the world at the equator.
It is hard to grasp such large numbers, so picture being on a very long road trip. If you had these orphans hold hands in a line, you would see over 1,700 orphans per mile. If you were to follow that line of Orphans holding hands, driving 60 mph, you could drive 24 hours a day seeing 1,700 orphans every mile, hour after hour, day after day without stopping for over two months,
and you would still see orphans holding hands. How long would it take to stop, and with compassion take one child in your arms, to make a difference for at least one? They are hungry, lonely, afraid, have holes in their shoes, and face the greatest challenges of any children on the face of the earth. They are very real children who need someone to love them and help them. Join us!
Orphan and Waiting Children Ministry
Our Spiritual Adoption – God’s great love for us
“I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you.” (John 14:18)
God’s Heart for Orphans
“You are the defender of orphans. Surely you will listen to their cries and comfort them” (Psalms 10:14)
The Orphan and Waiting Children Ministry's objective is to "Mobilize the Oak Mountain body to glorify God through caring for orphans.”
As a ministry we seek to....
- To promote the biblical admonition to care for the fatherless.
- To provide orphan care through financial and donated resources along with short-term missions trips.
- To promote adoption as one of the biblical applications of caring for the fatherless.
- To minister to Oak Mountain families who are considering and undergoing adoption.
- To identify and train Oak Mountain families to become foster care parents.
- To present an awareness of the plight of the orphan.
This is accomplished in three main ways...
- Orphan Care – To provide for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of orphans and waiting children.
- International & Domestic Adoption – To educate, encourage and support families as they consider and pursue adoption.
- Foster Care and Foster-care Adoption – To minister to state child-welfare workers, raise up and support foster parents, and to recruit and support adoptive parents for children in foster care.
We welcome your inquiries about orphans, adoption, foster care, ideas, joining the cause, etc., please email Tim McCracken.
