Are You EN?

The goal, vision and mission of outreach at Oak Mountain Church is….

To ENcourage, ENgulf and ENgage believers at Oak Mountain Church with the vision to live grace-centered, externally-focused lives  for the sake of the Kingdom and the good of their communities.

So here’s a question. Are you EN?

ENcouraged

  • Are you ENcouraged?
    • Are you encouraged, in a gospel-centered, Spirit-empowered way to live out both
      • the great command, to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and
      • the great commission, to make disciples of all nations

  • Are you ENcouraging others?
    • Are you, within the sphere of influence which God has providentially placed you, with your specific personality and gift mix, are you encouraging others in their pursuit of Jesus? Whether it is in pursuit of Jesus for their initial justification or their pursuit of Jesus for their continual sanctification, are we using our gifts and energies to move people forward in hope and holiness.

ENgulfed

  • Are you ENgulfed with the vision?
    • Are you completely and utterly overwhelmed and overcome with the vast, life changing, universe altering, kingdom advancing vision laid out for us in Scripture? Yeah, often times neither are we.  Which is exactly why we need to be in reliance, both upon the Spirit of God to move us and the community of God, the church, to help us move forward into the divine calling placed upon every believer.

  • Are you ENgulfing others?
    • Are you taking the passion you have been given as a gift of good and gracious heavenly Father and drawing others along with you in your Spirit-inspired wake.

ENgaged

  • Are you ENgaged?
    • Are you engaged in pursuit of opportunities to live out the implications of the gospel in your daily life?  God sovereignly places multiple opportunities in our paths daily.  Are we engaging this call and opportunity in such a way that we are both attune to the doors opened before us as well as purposefully pursuing doors to open?

  • Are you ENgaging others?
    • Are we engaging others with this calling and vision? Our family, our close friends, our work associates, our recreational acquaintances?

So what do you think? Are you “EN”?

Being “EN” assumes that we are growing in our conviction and competence to get “out”Get out of our comfortable patterns of life.  Get out of our holy huddle.  Get out of our insulated cocoons where we do life safely and without risk.

Are You EN?  If so, then get out.

Opportunities to “get out”

(most of the following opportunities to engage are set to begin January 2012)

1)     Film Night – We will come together and watch a movie followed by a brief discussion by our senior pastor, Bob Flayhart, regarding the common grace themes found throughout the film.

2)     Ballroom Dancing – An opportunity to build purposeful, gospel motivated relationships with friends, neighbors and co-workers around a weekly ballroom dancing class held at Oak Mountain Church’s gym.

3)     Latin Dancing - An opportunity to build purposeful, gospel motivated relationships with friends, neighbors and co-workers around a monthly Latin Dance night held at Workplay Theater.

4)     The Periodic Table – Bringing together the unique elements of fine food, live music and engaging conversation with unexpected strangers, The Periodic Table is a periodic “underground supper club” and mobile restaurant held monthly in venues as varied as private homes, local vineyards, greenhouses, barns and various public outdoor spaces. Events are limited to 30 people.

5)     Entrepreneurship Initiative / Buisiness – Entrepreneurs and business people working together in a collaborative effort to impact the city of Birmingham through the beauty of the gospel and the holy calling to engage, redeem and renew our city, which God dearly loves.

6)     Culture Club - Monthly outings of “cultural significance” (i.e. Art Gallery, museum, concert, etc)

7)     Feedback – A monthly opportunity for songwriters across multiple genres to bring both finished and unfinished works for collaboration and, well, feedback from a group of likeminded lyrical poets.
